Christy Williams Tichy, OC ‘66 writes: The Bunny rock was done for Easter ‘63 by the same students who did the Santa rock: Pat Durham, Susan Lindblom, Sandy Ogg, Christy Tichy, and Ellen Taylor all class of ‘66. We had a great time planning, and completing the rocks. We had had such a good time with “Santa Rock” that we couldn’t resist “Bunny Rock”. The bunny fur was made of paper flowers similar to flowers used in parade float decorations. I don’t recall any painting for the bunny–just paper. We decorated the rocks for fun, for us and everyone. I suppose it was graffiti, but we really enjoyed doing it, and the projects brought a small group of freshman from different parts of the country (Missouri, Connecticut, and Montana) closer together.
Thank you very much Christy, for sharing this photo and story.

This photo of Sponge Bob Square Pants on the Shipherd/Stewart memorial was taken and submitted by Paul Morton, associate editor of the Oberlin News-Tribune in April, 2004, for a newspaper feature called “12 months of Rock,” which appeared in January 2005. The newspaper took pictures of the rocks on Tappan Square each month of 2004 and published them in the feature.
Thanks for the photo, Paul.

Katie Laushman writes:
“This one I did on April 11, 2007, for my friend Hannah G. Sorry it’s not the best quality image, but it says, Enjoy your new meniscus Hannah! I did it with my friends Hannah J. and Mia G. Hannah G. had surgery to get a meniscus transplant the next day, having torn it in a previous soccer injury. I do remember it being short-lived, because the next morning it was re-painted in honor of Kurt Vonnegut’s death.”
Thanks for sending in this photo and story, Katie.
Shipherd/Stewart memorial.
The painter of the Kurt Vonnegut rock recycled the heart from this painting!
