Dave Partyka, OC ’78, sends this photo and says: “Another Barb Robbins creation though I painted the blue background and always thought the background made the photo. Rebecca Spain Daniell celebrating her birthday with Barb, 1977. Rebecca is a physician in her home state of North Carolina.” Becky and Barb on the rock. Thanks, Dave, for the photo of the rock painting with the outstanding background!

Mrs. A. Croker sends this photo and writes: “I wanted to share a photo of Theodore Croker, Class of 2007, Conservatory of Music. This was taken in his freshman year. He had not seen snow for over 15 years and celebrated by climbing onto the nearest Rock.
The caption is interesting and I am not sure what the reference is but it makes a striking photo of a minority student atop of a rock with a message of Racism.”
Thank you for the photo and story, Mrs. Croker.

Holly Windle, OC ’75, relates: “The birthday one is a somewhat dim b&w photo of the freshly-painted rock just in time for my birthday on May 12, 1975. My friends denied involvement, and I never did find out who was responsible. Or perhaps there was some other Holly who had a birthday about that time?” Holly, thanks for the photo. Maybe someone will own up to it?

Christy Williams Tichy, OC ’66 writes: The Bunny rock was done for Easter ’63 by the same students who did the Santa rock: Pat Durham, Susan Lindblom, Sandy Ogg, Christy Tichy, and Ellen Taylor all class of ’66. We had a great time planning, and completing the rocks. We had had such a good time with “Santa Rock” that we couldn’t resist “Bunny Rock”. The bunny fur was made of paper flowers similar to flowers used in parade float decorations. I don’t recall any painting for the bunny–just paper. We decorated the rocks for fun, for us and everyone. I suppose it was graffiti, but we really enjoyed doing it, and the projects brought a small group of freshman from different parts of the country (Missouri, Connecticut, and Montana) closer together.
Thank you very much Christy, for sharing this photo and story.

Tim Brown writes: “I went out late at night on May 15, 1978 and painted this for my girlfriend Laurell to surprise her on her 20th birthday. We met when we were students at Oberlin College. We are still together and have been happily married for almost 29 years.”
Congratulations to Tim and Laurell and thanks for sending in the photo and story.
