Katie Laushman writes:
“This one I did on April 11, 2007, for my friend Hannah G. Sorry it’s not the best quality image, but it says, Enjoy your new meniscus Hannah! I did it with my friends Hannah J. and Mia G. Hannah G. had surgery to get a meniscus transplant the next day, having torn it in a previous soccer injury. I do remember it being short-lived, because the next morning it was re-painted in honor of Kurt Vonnegut’s death.”
Thanks for sending in this photo and story, Katie.
Shipherd/Stewart memorial.
The painter of the Kurt Vonnegut rock recycled the heart from this painting!

The Class of 1898 monument is painted on September 4,1985 by Sarah for the sixteenth birthday of her friend, John D. Bukovac (my nephew). She painted “Buk 2″ because his dad is also named John, and uses the same nickname.
Thanks to my favorite brother, John S. Bukovac, for submitting this photo.

Solomon’s second birthday, in late May of 2004, is a painting of “Blue”, the dog from Blue’s Clues. The rock was painted and photographed by his Grandma A who was rewarded with Solomon’s joy at seeing the painting. Class of 1898 memorial rock.

Rock painters have been buying their supplies at Watson Hardware on South Main Street for decades.

November election Obama logo
This photo was taken Tueday, November 4, 2008 of the class of 1898 monument. Views of “change” and “hope” follow.

Sometimes paintings last a long while on the rocks. The November Obama rock is an example of that. Below is a photo taken of the same painting over two months later on January 10, 2009 after a sizeable snowfall in Oberlin. Maybe it will still be there for the inauguration on January 20th.
